As part of NATO's Mauritania Defense Capacity Building Initiative, MARSEC COE's Mobile Education and Training Team conducted a Maritime Situational Awareness (MSA) training in Nouakchott between July 15-18, 2024, with the aim of enhancing Mauritania's maritime security capabilities.
A total of 24 Mauritanian Navy and Coastguard personnel participated in the activity. In addition to theoretical sessions on MSA, countering maritime terrorism, maritime security law, and interagency response in maritime security, an MSA focused training tabletop exercise involving six different scenarios, including the protection of critical infratructure and countering migrants smuggling, was conducted.
